ABOUT SIRENS FOR SILHOUETTES
Sirens For Silhouettes is an effort by the Interact Club of SMK (P) Sri Aman to raise awareness among the community about the escalating suicide rates worldwide. Our goal is to not only reach out to youths, but we hope to inspire them to in turn, reach out to others. You may ask, is suicide a real problem? Will it ever even affect me? The answer is yes.
One suicide occurs every 40 seconds.
Almost one million suicides occur every year.
You can never tell how broken someone is just by looking at them. You could be standing next to someone who is completely shattered on the inside without even knowing it, which is why we need to reach out before it’s too late. We hope to let everyone know- whether they need to know or not, that they are not alone. That they will never be alone. That they’re beautiful, that they deserve to live.
A walk will be held on the 7th of April, where participants will walk along a 3km route with their wrists tied to a trusted friend’s wrist, to show that no matter what obstacle may be in your way, there is always someone who can and will help you get through it.
The reason we chose “Sirens For Silhouettes” to send out our message is because sirens, normally associated with ambulances and firetrucks are loud, and they send out a clear, urgent, honest message: I’m here. Let me help you. Silhouettes on the other hand, mean the dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background, especially in dim light. This can represent many things, but we want our message to be loud and clear:
We are here to help you. You have so much more to live for.
It Gets Better.
